BCA Zoo is now the home to a group of Endangered Asian Spotted Turtles.

This species of turtle is found in the freshwater habitats of India, Bangladesh and Pakistan.

The Asian Spotted Turtle has been classed as being endangered largely down to being collected for local consumption and local and national trade which mostly took place up until the 1980’s. By the late 1990s the species appeared in the East Asian food trade  The species has become highly popular in the East and Southeast Asian pet trade since about 2006 and continues to be extensively traded illegally.

Our group of turtles are not yet on show to the public as we are currently developing the aquatics room in which they live. There will be some new aquatic reptile species joining them in the near future so watch this space.
