The Brazilian Black Tarantula, like it’s name suggests, can be found throughout grasslands in Southern Brazil. Brazilian Black Tarantulas can grow up to 8 inches and due to their calm nature they are often sought after for the pet trade. If provoked they, like most tarantulas, have uricating hairs on their abdomen that they can flick using their back legs, they also have a venomous bite however it isn’t very potent to humans unless they are allergic to spider bites.
Female Brazilian Black Tarantulas can live up to 20 years, during this time she could have 1000’s of babies laying up to 600 eggs at a time. Baby spiders, known as slings, are raised by mum for the first few weeks before living alone as adults become cannibalistic.
